Improving the resilience of populations and ecosystems in the Niger Basin by managing natural resources sustainably.
The Niger Basin of the Sahel is one of Africa’s most vulnerable regions to climate change. Over the past six decades, the total annual rainfall has reduced by 20 to 40 percent. Recurrent droughts have resulted in the increasing fragility of ecosystems, and reduced social resilience that disproportionately affects women, children and disabled people in the basin.
This programme will address these drivers by implementing a series of integrated and comprehensive actions that reduce the silting of the Niger River, improve natural resources management and enhance the population’s ability to adapt to climate change. It also includes some mitigation activities, including through forestry and land use.
The project has an estimated lifespan of 6 years.
천연자원의 지속가능한 관리를 통해 니제르 유역의 인구 및 생태계 회복력 제고
사헬의 니제르 유역은 아프리카에서 기후변화에 가장 취약한 지역이다. 과거 60년 동안 총 강우량이 20-40%가량 감소하였다. 취약한 생태계의 가뭄이 계속되었으며, 사회적 회복력의 감소는 여성, 아동 및 장애인에게 더 큰 여파를 미쳤다.
본 프로그램은 다수의 통합적/포괄적 조치를 통해 니제르 강의 미사 퇴적을 저감하고, 천연 자원 관리를 제고하고, 기후 변화에 적응하는 인구의 역량을 제고할 것이다. 또한 임업 및 토지 사용을 포함해 완화 활동을 포함한다.
프로젝트의 예상기간은 6년이다.
