[SEI] State of the climate report Kenya 2024

SEI
Category

For their contribution, SEI researchers explored the interconnectedness of air quality and climate, emphasizing the need for the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) to integrate air quality monitoring into its work. In response, KMD partnered with SEI and UNEP to install air quality monitoring sensors, utilizing data from 13 sensors across Nairobi for this report.

Given that the chemical species responsible for air pollution are often co-emitted with greenhouse gases, addressing air quality is essential for climate action. Climate change and air pollution are both environmental problems affecting development in Kenya and are potentially dangerous for human, animal and ecosystem health. Air pollution can be detrimental in urban areas, where large numbers of people and emissions are concentrated.
