IFPEN DECARBONIZATION OF LAND MOBILITY

On Tuesday, 18 June 2024 from 9:00 AM, at L'Apostrophe, 83 Avenue Marceau, Paris 16e and online. 

The road transport sector accounts for around 21% of CO emissions2 on a European scale. This sector must, therefore, accelerate its transformation to reduce its carbon footprint, but also to meet increasingly stringent environmental standards.
The European Union has set the goal of zero CO emissions2 for new passenger and light commercial vehicles in 2035. For heavy goods vehicles, it has proposed a drastic 90% reduction in CO emissions2 by 2040 for new vehicles.

In this context, the various European countries are developing their trajectory towards carbon-free mobility. For new vehicles, electrification is becoming the predominant solution for both passenger cars and heavy goods vehicles. However, to decarbonise the sector now and given the pace of replacement of existing fleets, complementary pathways (advanced biofuels, synthetic fuels, hydrogen) are being considered.
