Seoul, Republic of Korea, August 28, 2024 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) has awarded the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) a commendation for its significant contributions to advancing green growth and carbon neutrality. The commendation recognizes K-water’s extensive work in climate change mitigation and adaptation, particularly through its innovative renewable energy initiatives. These initiatives have played a pivotal role in driving the Republic of Korea’s transition toward a Net-Zero society and have influenced national policies related to green growth and carbon neutrality. “We are delighted to commend the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) for its efforts and contribution to green growth and carbon neutrality,” said Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director-General of GGGI. “K-water’s commitments to carbon neutrality, particularly through renewable energy and nature-based solutions, demonstrate the crucial role of public entities in driving sustainable growth.” In response to the global climate crisis, K-water has developed the “2050 Carbon Neutral Roadmap,” outlining its strategy to address climate challenges and contribute to Korea’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). “It is deeply meaningful to receive this commendation at a time when water energy is gaining prominence as a key agenda for international cooperation on carbon neutrality,” said Dr. Seogdae Yun, CEO of K-water. GGGI and K-water have been in close collaboration since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2021. This partnership has focused on green growth, sustainable water resources management, green energy, climate-resilient water infrastructure, smart cities, carbon neutrality, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene).
About the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) K-water, Korea’s sole water-specialized public corporation, was established according to Article 1 of the Korea Water Resources Corporation Act in 1967. Its mission is to facilitate the water supply, encompassing residential and industrial needs, through the comprehensive development and efficient management of water resources, and enhancing water quality to improve the quality of people’s lives and promote public welfare.
